My intention with these little wishing star pillows was to make them and sell them to raise money for the “Make a wish” foundation. Wishes helping wishes…sweet idea don’t you think? This is on my to do list and when I get a chance, I will commit myself to getting this done.

So what is a wish pillow? Well, it can be many things, but I made it with a pocket for a child to put a loose tooth into for the tooth fairy. The pocket is big enough to fit a gift card, a small token or a prize. Use your imagination!

I’ve included the star sewing pattern template for download here. This jpeg should fill a letter sized paper where the two top side points of the star almost touch the sides. You may have to resize it before you print. I have an embroidery machine so I was able to put words on these like ‘dream’, ‘wish’, ‘imagine’. Certainly you could use iron on transfers or other appliques if you don’t have access to this type of machine.

I used a fleece material that I got on sale for ultra cheap. The idea was to keep them easy and inexpensive for making en masse’.  Cut two star shapes, a little rectangle big enough to fit a gift card if applicable, some ribbon or ric rac and buttons.

Put the pocket on first with just a quick zip around three sides using a straight stitch, then apply your ric rac over that. Put right sides together, stitch it almost all the way around leaving an opening to turn. Once you have your fabric turned inside out, stuff it with poly fill and embellish it with buttons etc.

Each of my nieces and nephews have one of these for their tooth fairy pillows, but like I said, they could be adopted to suit so many things. Since the intention was to benefit a good cause, I would appreciate that if you were to use this idea for anything other than for personal use that you keep that in mind. Maybe your charity or organization would make good use of these in a fund raising campaign? Please let me know if you do use them…it would make my heart smile!
